Fashion Rules for 2026
In 2026, I am done dressing out of habit and buying off impulse. Done shopping out of boredom. Done holding onto clothes out of guilt.
These fashion rules for 2026 extend far beyond this year, and are an attempt to make long lasting lifestyle changes in my fashion.
1. Buy it nice or buy it twice
Cheap clothing is expensive in disguise. It fades, stretches, pills, and needs replacing. In the long run, it costs more to constantly replace cheap clothing rather than investing into a quality item only once. Quality costs more upfront but less over time, with the wear of an item aging gracefully over time. In 2026, I’m investing once instead of repeatedly.
2. No more buying things “for later”
“Later” is a lie we tell ourselves to justify unnecessary purchases, expecially when it comes to second hand and vintage clothing. If an item does not serve my current lifestyle, it does not belong in my closet. Clothes should meet you where you are, not who you might become hypothetically.
3. Waiting before purchasing is non-negotiable
Impulse buying has no place in an intentional wardrobe. I’m giving myself time before committing to anything. I wait at least 1-6 months, and maybe even longer, to see if I genuinely love the item enough to purchase it. If the desire fades, it wasn’t meant for me. If it stays, it earns its place in my closet as a functional piece.
4. Accessories do the heavy lifting
Instead of endlessly buying clothes, I’m investing in statement accessories. A strong bag, shoe, or piece of jewelry transforms an outfit without cluttering a closet. Clothes can stay simple when accessories are intentional. This is peak chic. Ask Kelly Rutherford!
5. My closet is getting smaller, not fuller
If a piece does not resonate with who I am today, it goes. Not who I used to be. Not who I was dressing for. Today. A reduced closet is clearer, easier, and more honest.
6. Health is part of style
Taking care of my body is not separate from fashion. It is called lifeSTYLE for a reason. Strength, posture, energy, and confidence are the foundation of how clothes look and fit on the body. Working out is couture.
These rules are all about aligning with the woman I am destined to be, and alignment is the real luxury in 2026.
